Margaret E. Showalter, 64, of Arkansas City, Kansas, passed away Saturday evening, April 21, 2018 at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita.
Born October 27, 1953 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Robert Lee and Wanda (Overbey) Williams. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1971. After school, she moved to Coperas Cove, Texas where she worked as a Correctional Officer of the Texas Department of Corrections.
In 1987, she returned to Kansas and began working for the Kansas Department of Corrections in Lansing. While in Lansing, she met Steven Showalter. The couple married on March 3, 1988 in Winfield, Kansas. They made their first home in Norton, where Maggie continued her career as a Corrections Officer. In 1992, she graduated from Friends University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Resources. She then transferred to Winfield, where she remained a Corrections Officer until transferring in 1996 to the Parole Office in Wichita. Maggie remained in the Parole Office until 2012 when she retired as a Parole Officer. She was an avid reader and enjoyed flowers and caring for and decorating her family's home.

Her brother: Bruce Williams and wife, Carol of Topeka;
Her niece: Holly Hulsopple and husband, Branden of Topeka;
Her nephew: Brian Williams of Topeka; and
Several cousins.
In addition to her parents, Maggie was preceded in death by her brother, Roger Williams.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Private family inurnment will take place at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial has been established in Maggie's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
