Obituary

MARGARET JEAN "PEGGY" MCGRATH, 76, of Winfield passed away on June 12, 2014. Peggy was born on June 9, 1938, in Burlington, Kansas, the eldest child of Glenn and Louise (Jones) Williams. She spent her childhood in Waverly, Kansas. After graduating from Waverly High School, she attended Emporia State University. On August 30, 1958, she married Dean McGrath. He survives of the home.

Peggy is also survived by her children, Stephanie (Eddy) Clausen of Wichita; Susan (Jay) North of Auburn; Sheryl (Ed) Byrd of Topeka; Greg (Deena) McGrath of Fort Collins, Colorado; Carolyn (Jay) Brooks of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Diane (David) Kemp of Derby; Ann (Tim Barnes) McGrath of Olathe; David McGrath of Round Rock, Texas; and Christi (Ilya Simyatitsky) McGrath of Wichita and 13 loving grandchildren.

In addition, Peggy leaves behind her brothers, Jim (Carol) Williams of Scottsdale, Arizona and Ed (Young) Williams of Athens, Georgia, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Susan Bors.

Peggy loved children. After her own children had grown, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She also spent 20 years volunteering as a teacher's aide in private and public schools. Peggy, a devout Catholic, was very active in her church.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Kansas Veteran's Home in Winfield for the care and compassion they provided to Peggy and her family.

A Rosary will be held Sunday, June 15, 2014 at 7:00 P.M., at the Holy Name Catholic Church. Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, June 16, 2014 at Holy Name Catholic Church, 412 E. 8th Avenue, Winfield, Kansas. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Holy Name Catholic School, 700 Fuller Street, Winfield, KS 67156. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
