Obituary

Margaret Marie Massey, 85, of Dexter, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, February 19, 2023, at her home.

Born July 23, 1937, in Hoosier, Kansas, she was the daughter of Emmet Paterson and Eva Marie (Martling) Daniel. She was raised and received her education in Dexter, graduating from Dexter High School. She was united in marriage to Bobby Gene "Bob" Massey. The couple made their first home in Wichita and eventually settled back in Dexter where Margaret worked at Grouse Valley Manor for 15 years. She retired as the Food Service Supervisor in 1998.

Margaret was a member of the Highland Club and the Grouse Valley Ladies Club and served on the Cowley County Soil Conservation Board. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Dexter for 20 years, Maple City Community Church for ten years, and the Winfield Evangelical Free Church for 25 years. In 2007, she joined Cambridge Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and gardening. She especially enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids play sports.

Her family includes her husband Bob G. Massey of Dexter; her sons, Dane Massey and wife, Anne of Houston, TX; Bobby Massey and wife, Beth of Valley Center; her daughters, Lila Tarp and husband, Dale of Tupelo, OK; Gina Anderson and husband, Jay of Dexter; her brother Marvin Daniel and wife, Beverly of Denton, TX; her sister Marilyn Banister and husband, Jay of Arkansas City; her grandchildren, Jenny (Rob) Gregg, Kacie (Josh) Brecheen, Zach (Sarah) Massey, Isaiah (Hope) Massey, Letisha (Brent) Deibert, Gideon (Mai) Massey, Tiffany (Jeff) Penner, Nate (Kimberly) Anderson, Jamin (Janell) Anderson, Hannah (Matthew) Westenfeld, Hillary (Holden) Burk, Levi (Tia) Massey, Lucas Massey, Lazarus Massey, Laban (Cheira) Massey, Haven Massey, and Loyale Massey; and her great grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah, Micah, Makayla, Colton, Eden, Jubilee, Justice, Shiloh, Simeon, Ridge, Kruz, Bear, Jayden, Averi, Landen, Logan, Elaina, Tallia, Samuel, Dorothy, Pearl, Whittaker, Kya, Jovi, Otto, and Woodrow.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by a son, Mark Massey.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Dexter Community Outreach Church. Interment will follow at Dexter Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8 that evening.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Margaret's name for the Dexter High School. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
