Obituary

Margaret Ann Cantrell, 69, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, May 20, 2024, at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita.

Born November 4, 1954, in Arkansas City, Kansas, she was the daughter of Orville and Connie (Esparza) Edwards.  She was raised and received her education in Wichita.

She married Jose Jimenez in 1972. The couple made their first home in Wichita before moving to Florida. While in Florida Margaret attended Junior College in Miami Dade. To this union two children were born. The family returned to Wichita where Margaret attended Wichita State University, receiving her nursing degree in 1980. The couple divorced in 1985.

Margaret began her nursing career at St. Francis in Wichita and then worked for Wesley Medical Center as part of the Heart Team.  She later worked as a travel nurse for a number of years before moving to Winfield and worked at Cumbernauld Village as a Charge Nurse.  In 1995, she was forced to leave Cumbernauld due to health concerns.

She was united in marriage to Tony Lee Cantrell on October 17, 1992, at Tisdale United Methodist Church.  In 2003, Margaret was able to return to work as a Pharmacy Tech at Costco in the Kansas City area.  She then worked for United Healthcare for a short time before returning to Winfield and taking a position as a Pharmacy Tech at WalMart Pharmacy.  Margaret remained at WalMart until retiring in 2012.  She enjoyed sewing and was known as a wonderful seamstress.  She made clothes for herself, her family, and her friends.  She also enjoyed helping Tony paint and work on remodel projects.

Her family includes her husband Tony Cantrell of Winfield; her mother Connie Safford of Wichita; her children, Rosa Jimenez of Arkansas City; Jose Jimenez of Wichita; her step-children, Sarah Ferguson of Riverside, CA; Craig Cantrell of Riverside, CA; and Kyle Cantrell of San Diego, CA; her grandchildren, Ivan Shelton, Hannah Wall, Shelby Hoag, Tabitha Perry, Thereon Perry, Diago Jimenez, Davion Jimenez, Dmareus Jackson, Rylee Morrow; her 10 great grandchildren with one on the way; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and other extended family.

In addition to her father, Margaret was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorene Sandborn and Marilyn Mendoza.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Miles Funeral Service.  Private family interment will take place at a later date.

A memorial has been established in Margaret's name for Harry Hynes Hospice.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
