Marcile Karan Schooley, 81, of Burden, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, February 8, 2021 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Marcile was born May 8, 1939 to Lee and Marie (Adams) Hall. She grew up on Rock Creek north of Atlanta and attended Lone Star and Douglass schools. She was active in 4-H, singing with her brother, and loved to ride horses.
She married Richard J. Schooley on January 12, 1956. They raised four children while farming and ranching from Oklahoma, Rosalia, Otto community, Atlanta, Latham, and Cambridge. They moved to Burden in 1989 where she remained until her death. She worked alongside Richard in the fields and in the pastures as they built their business and raised their family. In 1979, she took a job as Clerk of the Cambridge Post Office. From there, she became a Postmaster at Geuda Springs in 1987 and the Postmaster of the Burden Post Office in 1988 where she retired from in 2012.
Her family was her whole world for which she was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family, holidays, playing cards with her friends, and her club meetings.
Her family includes her sister Leola Little of Douglass; her brother Joe (Kay) Hall of Atlanta; brother-in-law Bob McClintock of Norman, OK; sons, Randy (Cindy) Schooley of Latham; Bart (Roxann) Schooley of Cambridge; Jim (Peggy) Schooley of Cambridge; daughter Leah (Ed) Henderson of Burden; and her grandchildren, TJ (Courtney Chrisley) Schooley of Arkansas City; Leigh Ann Smith of Burden; Tony (Melissa) Schooley of Burden; Tosha (Greg King) Mayfield of Winfield; Karan (Charles) Wolfe of Udall; Elizabeth (Chase) Ferguson of Burden; Shawna Thompson of Derby; Curtis Schooley of Cambridge; Vance (Becky) Henderson, Travis (Tina) Henderson, Chris Henderson, all of Burden; Marci (Sarah) Henderson-Hodges of Chanute; Chet Beers of Burden; great-grandchildren, Brady (Adrianna) Mayfield of Derby; Chloie Posey of Arkansas City; Boe, Jill, Russ, Luke, and Anna Smith of Burden; Lexy, Laine, Brylee, and Korbin Schooley of Burden; Alex and Andrew Wolfe of Udall; Kristopher Harman, Destiny Horn, Hannah, Gary, and SJ Ferguson of Burden; Melissa, Austin, Adison, Mathew, Samantha, Ty, Hunter, Sadie, and Hayden Henderson, all of Burden; great-great grandchildren, Braelynn and Conager Mayfield of Derby; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years who passed in 2013, her sister Marilyn Chilcott, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Latham Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Marcile's name for the Burden Fire Department. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
