Obituary

Marc A. Godfrey, 65, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away April 25, 2021 at his home.

Born November 27, 1955 in Farmington, New Mexico, he was the son of James "Jim" and Elva (Gagnebin) Godfrey. At the age of six, his family worked for Dowell-Schlumberger and in various places overseas including Libya, Nigeria, Venezuela, Netherlands, England, and Dubai. He graduated from an American College Prep School in Tehran, Iran in 1973 and was in the National Honors Society. Following high school, he attended college in Eugene, Oregon for two years, and then Wichita University and finally, Southwestern College where he graduated in May 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics.

Marc began working for Law & Sons Plumbing. He was united in marriage to Cheryl Hallgren on May 27, 1988 at the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield where they began Godfrey's Plumbing in 1996.

Marc was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield, served on the trade board for the city, and played the annual trivia games for CASA. He enjoyed bluegrass music and video games and especially enjoyed reading. He was a very energetic, active, and supportive grandpa and loved his family dearly.

His family includes his wife Cheryl Godfrey of Winfield; his children Richard Godfrey of Winfield; Sherri Hester and husband, Chris of Arkansas City; John VanNess, Jr. and wife, Rita of Youngsville, NC; Shannon Land and wife, Rachael of Broken Arrow, OK; his grandchildren, Connor Hester, Joey VanNess, Nicholas VanNess, Lilah Land, and Meredith Land; his parents, James and Elva Godfrey of Arkansas City; his sister Kim Senior and husband, Andrew of Manhattan; his brother Scott Godfrey and wife, Becky of Overland Park; and numerous nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8 that evening. Masks are required.

Memorials have been established in Marc's name for the Winfield Food Pantry and for KU Medical Center for head and neck cancer research. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
