Obituary

MAE MARIE "MAMIE" McELHONE, 73, of Dexter, Kansas, formerly of Winfield, went to be with her Heavenly Father, surrounded by her family on Thursday morning, July 28, 2011 at the Kansas Medical Center in Andover.

Born June 19, 1938 in Winfield, Mae was the daughter of Milton and Thelma (Morgan) McCollum. She was raised and educated in Winfield. She was united in marriage to Ray Medford Miller in 1954 in Miami, Oklahoma. Ray preceded her in death in 1962.

Mae married Robert McElhone in Newkirk, Oklahoma on June 23, 1967. The couple traveled all over from Germany to New Jersey to Kentucky with Robert's military career. They lived in Winfield until three months ago when they moved to Dexter.

Mae was the manager of "The Little Store" in Winfield from 1980 to 1987. She worked at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center as a LMHT 2, Medication Aide, and retired in 1997.

She was a member of the Dexter Outreach Church, and volunteered at the Eagle's Nest as a receptionist. She enjoyed watching WWE Wrestling and Soap Operas, as well as enjoying flowers and cooking. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Her sisters: Mildred Miller of Wylie, Colorado; and Mary Mitchell of Hasty, Colorado;
Her 5 grandchildren: Tyler Williams, US Navy; Chad Williams, US Navy; Myranda Mason; Isaiah McElhone; and Cameron Thompson;
Her aunts: Viriginia Yianakopulos of Winfield; and Sarah Justice of Arkansas City;
Her nieces and nephews: Vickie, Cindy, Michael, Harry Lee, Cheryl, Guy, and Debbie;
Her extended family: Diana Begley, Mason Begley, Matthew Smith, and Megan Sytnick; and
Her dear friends: Deloris Whiteman, Patsy Finuf, Jeri Martin, Barbara Anderson, and Lorna Lou Reed.

In addition to her parents and her first husband, Mae was preceded in death by her sister, Helen McWhithey, her grandson, Christian Erik Knapp, and her dearly beloved dog, Sandy.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 1, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 7 P.M.

Memorials have been established in Mae's name for the Eagle's Nest and for Dexter Outreach Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
