Mabel Elizabeth Fowler, 91, of Winfield, Kansas passed away Saturday evening January 08, 2011 at the William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Born November 09, 1919 Lamar, Colorado, she was the daughter of John Edgar and Ina Gertrude (Goff) Hiigel. She was raised and received her education in Lamar, graduating from Lamar High School in 1937. As a youth she enjoyed working at summer camps for nine years.
Mabel was united in marriage to Lewis Donald Fowler on April 16 1946, in Lamar, Colorado. The couple made their first home in Manhattan, Kansas where Mabel attended Manhattan Bible College from 1946 to 1948. They then lived in several locations before settling in Wichita in 1969. Mabel worked at the Institute of Logopedics in Wichita and as an administrative assistant for Internal Medicine Education at Wesley Medical Center. She especially loved her work with teaching the staff and the Medical Residents at Wesley Medical Center. In 1987 the couple retired and moved to Winfield to be near family. Mr. Fowler preceded her in death on May 15, 1991
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Winfield. She enjoyed singing in the choir at church and working on crafts. She took great pride in leading a crafts group at the church for over a decade. She had great love for her 2 children and their families and was so proud of them.

Her brother: Lewis Edward Hiigel of Phoenix, AZ;
Her grandchildren: Jason Moore; Jeremy Moore; Ryan Fowler; Colin Fowler; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mabel was preceded in death by her brother Francis L. Hiigel.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the First Christian Church in Winfield. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a memorial donation in Mabel's name to the First Christian Church in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
