Obituary

LYNN RICHARD PIPHER, 75, of Sedan, Kansas, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 14, 2013 due to an auto accident.

Born August 30, 1937 in Fort Riley, Kansas, he was the son of Wayne Richard and Alice Jane (Jackson) Pipher. Lynn was raised as the son of a career military officer and traveled all over. While his father was serving in WWII, he stayed in Burden, Kansas with his mother. He attended and graduated the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Education.

He was united in marriage to Elaine Wilbert in 1962. The couple spent 42 years together before her passing on November 12, 2005. He worked as a Topographic Analyst for the National GeoSpacial Intelligence Agency and retired in 1993.

He married Reta (Kirchner) Gardner on November 20, 2008 at the Stage Coach Ranch at Stoney Point in Chautauqua County.

Lynn was a member of the Epiphany Episcopal Church in Sedan. He enjoyed operating the Stage Coach Ranch, raising registered Red Angus Cattle, Arabian Horses and Shetland Sheep. He also enjoyed restoring, collecting and driving antique carriages and restoring antique MG's. He was an avid reader with a particular interest in the history of WWII and the Civil War. He was involved in helping start the historical group in Sedan.

His family includes:
His wife: Reta Pipher of Sedan;
His step children: Anna Gardner-Perkins and husband, Leroy of Derby; Scott Gardner and wife, Linda of Austin, TX; John Gardner and wife, Kara of Dallas, TX; and Jeff Gardner of Sedan, KS;
His brother: James Pipher and wife, Kiyoyo of Alexandria, VA;
His brother-in-law: Herbert Kirchner of Luther, OK;
His 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; and
His special friends: Mary Kurtis and David Parsons.

Lynn was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Elaine.

The family will hold memorial services in Sedan at a later date. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A Memorial has been established in Lynn's name for the Epiphany Episcopal Church in Sedan. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
