Luella "Ruth" Hellman, 88, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Wednesday evening, July 22, 2020 at Meridian Nursing & Rehab in Wichita.

Born May 16, 1932 in Cambridge, Kansas, she was the daughter of Jennings "Jinks" and Ethel Mae (Garretson) Hawley. She was raised and received her education in Cambridge and Burden. Ruth married John J. Redington on January 17, 1953. The couple had two children and later divorced.

Ruth worked at Beechcraft and Cessna for 32 years before retiring. She enjoyed taking walks, socializing, and searching for thrifty bargains while shopping. She loved children and never met a stranger.

Her family includes her children, John Wayne Redington and wife, Kerran of Derby; Peggy Jayne Sexton and husband, Kevin of Derby; and Benjamin Redington of Andover; her grandchildren, Devan and Tyler Redington; and her great grandchildren, Ethan, Aidan, and Brynlee Redington.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, Leonard and Lloyd Hawley.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at Cambridge Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Sunday from 2 to 5 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 2 to 4 that afternoon.

Memorials have been established in Ruth's name for Harry Hynes Hospice and for the Alzheimer's Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
