LOYD PRESTON CALL, 94, of Cedar Vale, Kansas, went to be with His Lord and Savior on Monday, September 12, 2011.
Loyd was born on August 6, 1917 to Homer and Stella (Kennedy) Call on a farm north of Cedar Vale. At the age of 3 his family moved a little over 3 miles to the farm where he would grow up and live most of his life. Loyd graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1935. Loyd farmed with his father before joining the United States Army in February of 1942. He served as an army engineer in World War II as part of the European Theatre. He received an honorable discharge from the military in November of 1945.
Loyd continued to farm and married Lois Faye Knapp in Oxford, Kansas on May 6, 1951. He continued to work as a self-employed dairy farmer north of Cedar Vale from 1960 to 1989. Mrs. Call preceded him in death on February 27,1986.
He attended Millington Street Baptist Church in Winfield, Kansas for many years. Loyd spent many hours researching his family history. In April of 2011 Loyd had the opportunity to travel on the Kansas Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to see the World War II Memorial.

His sons: Charles Call and wife Laura of Holton, KS: Keith Call and wife Cindy of Cedar Vale, KS; and Dwight Call and wife Mary of Cedar Vale, KS;
His daughter: Karen DeBoard and husband Mike of Derby, KS;
His brother: Donald Call and wife Charlotte of Winfield, KS;
His 13 grandchildren: Luke and Tamra Call, Heidi and Jeff Pankewich, Caleb Call, Joel and Eleanor Call, Mandy Call, Holly and Phillip Ingram, Becky DeBoard, Beth DeBoard, Sarah DeBoard, Cathleen Call, Timothy Call, Benjamin Call and Jacinda Call;
His 4 great-grandchildren; and
Several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth H. Call; and sister, Lela R. Kadau.
Graveside services will be held at the Cedar Creek Cemetery near Cedar Vale on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. The family will greet friends at 3:00 P.M., that afternoon at the Millington Street Baptist Church in Winfield.
A memorial has been established in Mr. Call's name for the Millington Street Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
