Lorraine "Maxyne" Barker, 87, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, June 16, 2017 at Winfield Rest Haven.
Born September 18, 1929, she was the daughter of Harry and Harriet (Eastman) Kirkpatrick. She was raised and received her education in the Dexter area.
Maxyne was united in marriage to Devon Wayne Conner on August 23, 1947 in Dexter. The couple made their home in Burden. In addition to being a devoted homemaker, Maxyne enjoyed cooking, and owned two different restaurants in Burden. In 1965 the couple moved to Oxford, Kansas, and Maxyne worked as a cook at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. Mr. Conner preceded her in death on August 29, 1970.
In 1972, she married Gerald Barker in Oxford. The couple made their home in Oxford. Mr. Barker preceded her in death on July 4, 2004. Maxyne was member of the First Baptist Church in Oxford. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and especially loved spending time with the grandkids.

Her daughters: Debra Short and husband, Al of Wichita; Rita Moon and husband, Laban of Independence;
Her grandsons: Phillip Rush and wife, Jennifer of Oxford; Tony Rush and wife, Carie of Winfield; and
Her great grandchildren: Peyton, Pearson and Roman Rush.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Maxyne was preceded in death by her two sisters, Mary Ann Kindy and Helen Graham.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Burden Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday afternoon from 12 to 5.
A memorial has been established in Maxyne's name for the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
