Obituary

Loretta Ann (Tatro) Bonnell, 77, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away early Monday morning, December 13, 2021, at Via Christi St. Francis.

Born October 9, 1944, in Wichita, Kansas, she was the daughter of Gerald and Letha (Smith) Tatro. She was raised and educated in Harper until eighth grade when her family moved to Wichita. Loretta graduated from North High School in Wichita in 1962.

She married Woodrow Houser in 1962. The couple raised their five children in Rock. Loretta made a career being a homemaker and housewife until her children were grown. The couple later divorced. In 1990, Loretta went to work at Raytheon Aircraft. She worked in Sub-Assembly, retiring in 2007.

Loretta married Bob Bonnell. The couple made their home in Wichita. Bob preceded her in death on May 12, 2000. Loretta moved to Winfield in October 2010 and worked for USD 465 in food service and as a bus aide.  She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, as well as the Altar Society. She enjoyed making pies, helping with funeral dinners, and was a member of a group that cleaned the church. Faith was important to her. Following retirement, Loretta loved to volunteer at St. Joseph, where she made many lifelong friends. She loved her children and was in love with her grandchildren. She made blankets for all of them and was supportive of all of their events. She was a reliable babysitter and never said no. Loretta was a friend to all, wherever she lived. She was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and KU basketball fan. She enjoyed reading, baking, yard work, flowers, and old country music. She enjoyed feeding the deer and birds in her backyard and watching Hallmark Christmas movies.

Her family includes her children, Tracy McLaughlin and husband, Keith of Winfield; Patricia Lanier and husband, Gary of Rose Hill; Jeff Houser and wife, Dana of Derby; Jerry Houser and wife, Tracy of Palmer, AK; Amy Houser of Winfield; her brother Glenn Tatro and wife, Rose of the Kansas City metro area; her grandchildren, Ryan Lanier, Tyler Houser, Dylan McLaughlin, Elizabeth Meyer, Taren Zogelmann, Brandon McLaughlin, Katey Houser, Aidan Houser; and her great grandsons, Brody Houser, Silas Lanier, and Nathan Lanier.

In addition to her parents and husband Bob, Loretta was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Houser, a brother Jack, and a sister Delores.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Holy Name Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited on Friday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the church. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Loretta's name for St. Jude Children's Hospital. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
