Obituary

Lorene Kathryn Mahan, 79, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017 at her home.

Born November 25, 1937 in Lamar, Colorado, she was the daughter of Learoy and Thelma Pearl (Williams) McGuire. She was raised and received her education in Rocky Ford, Colorado. After school, she began working as a waitress in several area restaurants, including Peggy's, High Chaparral, as well as owning her own restaurant, Country Kitchen, for a short time. In 1983, she began working at Gibson's and remained there until retiring in 1992. In 2003, she moved to Winfield to be close to family. She enjoyed animals, gardening, crafts and working word searches.

Her family includes:
Her daughter: Diane Kill of Winfield;
Her grandchildren: Kathryn D. Brogan and husband, Todd; Michael S. Kill and Rita Fleming; Tammy N. Kill and Charles Miller; Frank L. Kill and Megan Phillips;
Her great grandchildren: Brooke E. and Haley D. Brogan; Michael S., Chet and Bodhi Kill; Jacqueline D. and James A. Miller;
Her nephew: Roland Leroy McGuire and wife, Grace; and
Her great nieces and nephews: Vanessa, Casey, Amber, Kodi Mae and Mitch.

In addition to her parents, Lorene was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melissa Sandy Chance, her brother, Leroy Roland McGuire and a nephew, Sherwin Lee McGuire.

Services will be held in Rocky Ford, Colorado at a later date. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Lorene's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
