Obituary

Loren Joe Wade, Sr., 104, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, November 20, 2016 at his home.

Born July 25, 1912 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Joseph N. and Mabel (Beltz) Wade. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield, High School in 1930. After school, Loren joined the United States Army and proudly served his country during WWII. After the war, he returned to Winfield, Kansas and began driving truck for Rail Express.

Loren was united in marriage to June A. Clapper on July 17, 1947 at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield. Loren owned and operated Loren Wade Floor, Sanding and Tile. He later went to work for the United States Postal Service and remained for over 23 years. After retiring from the post office, he went to work for Wal-Mart. He continued working for Wal-Mart for over 30 years, retiring in June of 2016. Mrs. Wade preceded him in death on February 4, 2016.

Loren was a member of the American Legion Post #10, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3544 and Winfield Elks Lodge. He enjoyed taking fishing trips with his family to Minnesota, bird watching, polishing rocks, dancing and playing music. He played for the Winfield City Band for many years and was the oldest and longest active member. He also started his own dance band, which he called Loren Wade's Music With Color.

His children: Roxanne Wade of Longmont, CO; Dane Wade of Winfield; Loren Joe Wade, Jr. of Arkansas City;
His daughter-in-law and caregiver: Kimberlee Poovey of Winfield;
His grandchildren: Cody Wade of Winfield; Rebecca Wade of Arkansas City; J.D. Wade of Enid, OK; and
His nephews: Billy Howard of Kansas City and Randy Howard of Longmont, CO.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Miles Funeral Service. Military Committal Honors will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in Loren's name for the American Legion Post #10 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3544. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
