Obituary

Lloyd S. Cox, 88 of Udall, Kansas, passed away Saturday evening, February 25, 2017 at his home in Udall.

Born February 11, 1929 in Wichita, Kansas, he was the son of Carl and Helen (Wrinkle) Cox. He was and received his education in Rose Hill. As a young man Lloyd worked at the Rose Hill Elevator and in the oil fields as well as being a farm hand.

Lloyd was united in marriage to Marie E. Melcher on August 29, 1951 in Mulvane, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Mulvane and lived in Wichita for a short time before moving to Udall in 1957. He worked for the Kansas Turnpike for a number of years before beginning his career in construction, building homes. He worked for Melcher Construction for many years, retiring in 1997. Marie preceded him in death on August 1, 2010.

He was a member of the Udall Cowboy Church. He enjoyed woodworking, especially building cabinets.

His family includes:
His son: Darrell Cox and wife, Marilyn of Mulvane;
His daughter: Rose Haskins and husband, Jim of Iola;
His brothers: Lee Cox of Rose Hill; Jess Cox of Wichita;
His sisters: Leska Chance of Derby; Dorothy Melcher of Mulvane; Greta Costlow of Benton; Barbara Stoffel of Mulvane;
His grandchildren: Victor Haskins and Emily Harris, Vincent and Alena Haskins, Lloyd and Lori Cox, Kristan and Cory Colvin;
His great grandchildren: Jessica Cox, Taryn Cox, Cody Cox, Barrett Cox, Adelaide Cox; and
His many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Spence, Mary Evans and LenaMae Cooley.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at the Udall Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors during this time.

Memorials have been established in Lloyd's name for Heartland Hospice and the Salvation Army in Wichita. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
