Lindsay "Rocky"
D. Rochat
August 10, 1936 – August 2, 2024
Lindsay D. "Rocky" Rochat, 87, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, passed away Friday morning, August 2, 2024, at Aspen Health and Rehab.
Lindsay D Rochat was born in the family home near Helmick, Kansas at 5 AM on August 10, 1936. His mother told him that it was 105 in the house that morning, as it was during the drought of 1936. LD, as he was called then, grew up in a farm environment. He attended rural schools, many of which were taught by his own father who was the school master. He graduated from Wilsey Rural High School in 1954 and attended Emporia State Teachers college for two years before moving to Wichita in 1957.
He served four years in the National Guard. Lindsay found employment at Boeing Aircraft and worked for them for almost 36 years before retiring as lead of a programmer group in 1992. It was there he picked up the nickname "Rocky". He married Carol Valentine in 1963. They were married for 12 years. In 1970 he relocated his family to Udall, Kansas, where he found the Lord as his Savior. He was promptly put to work as music leader and teaching the seventh grade boys Sunday school class. In that class were the sons of the pastor and two deacons. Rocky said he learned more from the Bible that way than from any preacher he ever heard. He eventually served his church as an ordained deacon. In 1978 he married Patricia ( Pat) Hines. He completed a degree at Friends University while living in Udall. Pat passed away in October of 2007, after which he sold the farm and moved into Winfield.
He worked briefly at Walmart until an opportunity became available to serve as the parking control officer for the Winfield Police department. He held this position for 10 years and became fondly known as Winfield's favorite parking Nazi! When he took the job he knew almost no one in Winfield. He was always amazed how many people knew him and how much he enjoyed seeing them every day.
Lindsay met and married Diane in 2009 and was living in Tulsa at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his mother, Tillie Elizabeth (Hebrank), his father, Lindsey H., and three brothers Gene, Glenn and Carl. Also preceding him in death were his sons James (Melva) Rochat, of Oxford, Kansas, Philip (Monica) Rochat, of San Antonio Texas, and daughter Rachel (Jeremy) Lankton of Winfield, Kansas. He loved baseball, softball, bowling, and he and his late wife Pat were active members of the Winfield Saddle Club. Rocky loved cows, especially belted Galloways. He owned a herd of them for years.
Rocky is survived by his widow Diane of the home, daughter Rebecca Kincheon, two daughters-in-law, Melva Rochat, Monica Rochat, one son-in-law Jeremy Lankton, two granddaughters, Rory and Lucy Lankton, and a grandson Necholas Kincheon. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
In a medical review by a doctor, Rocky was described as a very pleasant elderly gentleman. He strived to live up to that description. Rocky leaves behind many whom he was proud to call his friends, including those who followed his daily column of corny jokes on social media. Rocky's grandfather moved to Kansas from Germany and built the old stone brewery behind the Post Office Oak in Council Grove. Rocky would have celebrated his 88th birthday Saturday.
