Linda L. Hankins, 72, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at William Newton Hospital.
Linda was born November 30, 1947 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Guy and Georgiena (Piersol) Morgan. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School. Following high school, Linda traveled for a time. She returned to Winfield where she worked at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. She was a licensed mental health technician. While at the WSH&TC, she was instrumental in beginning the Union and was its' first president. She attended Cowley County Community College and then Wichita State University, receiving a degree in Administration of Justice.
She began working at the Social Rehabilitation Services as a case worker. Linda was a case manager for over 20 years before retiring.
She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Friends of the Library. She was also involved in Women for Kansas, the Democratic Party. Linda loved to travel and traveled as often as she could. She had been to Turkey, Israel, Ireland, and Greece. She loved New Orleans. She was the first PTA person at Irving School and got the candy bar fundraiser started. She was a lover of all animals and enjoyed raising birds.
Her family includes her children, Brandy Hankins of Winfield; Dolan Hankins of Holden, MO; her sister Karen Floyd of Winfield; her grandchildren, Madison Hankins of Winfield; and Aaron Rafferty of Ft. Atkinson, WI; and her nieces and nephews, Pam Robinson, Jeff Floyd, Kendle Doll, and Morgan Hankins.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by four sisters, Lila, Vida, Ruby, and Marie and her best friend Scooter.
The family will hold memorial services at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.
Memorials have been established in Linda's name for the Winfield Public Library, the Cowley County Humane Society, or the donor may contribute to the charity of their choice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
