Obituary

Linda "Gail" Burkett, 65, of Arkansas City, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, April 5, 2020 at South Central Kansas Medical Center.

Born February 17, 1955 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Marvin R. and Linda (Shorter) Keasling.  She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1973.  Growing up, Gail was very involved in Girl Scouts and enjoyed participating in sports in school.

Gail was united in marriage to Dennis Burkett on August 2, 1974 at Camp Bradbury Girl Scout Camp near Winfield.  The couple made their first home in Hiawatha before returning to Winfield where Gail attended Southwestern College.  She graduated from Southwestern with a bachelor's degree in education.  She then attended Wichita State University where she received her master's degree.  In Spring of 1976, the couple moved to Arkansas City, and Gail began working for USD 470 in 1978.  She spent most of her career working in special education.

Gail enjoyed camping, photography, the outdoors, and animals.  She loved to travel and had been all over the world including Germany, Austria, France, Ireland, Italy, Iceland, and most recently the Panama Canal.

Her family includes her husband Dennis of Arkansas City; her daughter Jennifer Hill and husband, Derek of Arkansas City; her son Jeff Burkett of Arkansas City; her brother David Keasling of Oxford; and her grandchildren, Owen Jackson, Bailey Jackson, and Wren Hill.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, August 27, 2020 at the Soroptimist Pavillion at Island Park in Winfield.  Due to the venue and limited seating, the family encourages friends to bring their own chair.  Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Service.

A memorial has been established in Gail's name for the Cowley County Humane Society.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
