Obituary

LIEUTENANT "LUKE" T. LOUD, 95, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, September 11, 2008 at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.

Born on December 20, 1912 in Castor, Louisiana, he was she son of Tilman and Alice (Glover) Loud. He was raised and received his education in Castor and as a youth helped his family on the farm.

He was united in marriage to Bertha M. Jackson in Louisiana where the couple made their home. Luke was employed at a saw mill in Ringold, Louisiana. In the mid 1940's, the couple moved to Winfield, Kansas. He worked at William Newton Memorial Hospital in the laundry department. Luke was later employed at St. John's College, The State Bank and Rubbermaid where he worked as a custodian. After retiring as a custodian, he became involved in the foster grandparent program for USD #465 where he proudly held the title of the oldest foster grandparent in the United States. Mrs. Loud preceded him in death in 1982.

Luke was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Winfield where he had served as a deacon for a number of years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and helped distribute USDA commodities in the community. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, watermelon feeds, and church and community activities.

His family includes:
His son: Willie Loud and wife Ann of Sierra Vista, AZ;
His daughters: Eloise Jones of Winnfield, LA; and Marian Smith of Winfield, KS;
His brothers: Lester Loud of Omaha, NE; Dayton Loud of Minneapolis, MN; and Oscar Loud of Richmond, CA;
His 24 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Leslie Loud; and his sisters, Mattie Egans and Laura Loud.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, September 15, 2008 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 to 5:00 P.M., Sunday, September 14, 2008. The family will greet friends from 3:00 to 5:00 that afternoon. Inurnment will take place at a later date.

A memorial has been established in Luke's name at Eagles Nest Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home or directly through Eagles Nest.
