Leonidas Carson "L.C." Asper, Jr., 92, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, February 7, 2017 at the Kansas Veterans Home.
Born August 26, 1924 in Anthony, Kansas, he was the son of Leonidas C., Sr. and Mabel E. (Neuhauser) Asper. He was raised and received his education in Oxford, Kansas where he graduated from Oxford High School. After school, Jr. joined the United States Army and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1946. After the service, he returned to Oxford and began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and later the Oxford Telephone Company.
Jr. was united in marriage to Thelma Mae Kerr on February 5, 1949 in Winfield. The couple made their first home in McPherson, Kansas before moving to Winfield. In 1953, Jr. began his career with the City of Winfield. He worked in the Electric Department for over 33 years, retiring on December 12, 1986. Mrs. Asper preceded him in death on May 31, 1998.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Winfield and was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars as well as being a member of the Elk's Lodge #732. He enjoyed coin collecting and going to the casino to play blackjack with his friends, Ron and Beverly Jenkins.

His daughter-in-law: Angie Asper of Winfield;
His sister: Marilyn R. Myers of Chula Vista, CA;
His grandchildren: Michael and Steven; and
His great grandchildren: Teagan and Madelyn.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jr. was preceded in death by a son, Randal L. Asper, his brothers, Darwin, Robert and Richard, and a sister, Vida.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Friday evening from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
Memorials have been established in L.C.'s name for the Kansas Veterans Home and for Heartland Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
