LEONA ELIZABETH GURNEE, 79, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 19, 2008 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

Born on January 29, 1929, in Aurora, Missouri, she was the daughter of John and Alpha (Garoutte) Sallee. Her family moved to Cambridge, Kansas when Leona was an infant. She was raised and educated in the Cambridge area, graduating from Cambridge High School.

Leona was united in marriage to Victor "Vic" Gurnee on November 1, 1944 in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield. Leona worked as a homemaker taking care of her family all her life. She was a member of the Nazarene faith. She enjoyed embroidery and hand sewing. She loved to work in her flower beds. Taking care of her yard was Leona's passion.

Her husband: Victor "Vic" Gurnee of the home;
Her sons: Dennis Gurnee and wife, Sandra of Stockton, MO; and David Gurnee and wife, Katie of Makinaw Island, MI;
Her daughter: Janis Kay Evans and husband, Walter of Winfield;
Her brothers: E.D. Sallee, William T. Dale, and Frank Eugene Dale;
Her sisters: Stella Dale Bugay, and Rebecca May Dale;
Her 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and
One great-great-grandchild on the way.
In addition to her parents, Leona was preceded in death by her infant son, Clifford Gurnee, her brothers, John Benjamin Sallee and Harry A. Dale, and her infant sister, Lillian Anita Dale.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 to 9.

A Memorial has been established in Mrs. Gurnee's name for the Davita Dialysis Center in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
