Leon William Moore, 91, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, January 22, 2022, at his home.
Leon was born at home in Winfield on August 28, 1930, to parents Roy Moore and Ruth Ruggles Moore. When Ruth Moore passed away, Roy married Beatrice Stites, who became Leon's mother. Leon attended rural schools and graduated from Winfield High School. Leon married Patricia Swanholt on December 7, 1950 in Winfield. Leon worked in the oilfields, farmed, then worked in construction. Leon also owned and operated Burden Oil Co. He had been a member of the Eastern Cowley County Fair Board for a number of years. Leon was a member and elder of the Cambridge Presbyterian Church. He loved watching Royals baseball. In retirement, he rebuilt and refinished antique furniture.
Leon was preceded in death by his wife Pat, his parents, daughter Marcia Osborn, son-in-law Lynn Adkins, brother Ernest Moore, and sister Sharon Moore.
Surviving children are Beverly (Darrell) Black; Carol Adkins, Eleanor (Richard) Peacock, Kenny (Julie) Moore, Rodney (Reba) Moore, and Marty (Kim) Moore. Grandchildren surviving are Jason Sweet, Sherri Terrell, Nathan Adkins, Alaine Adkins, Steven Adkins, Tyler Osborn, Tyson Osborn, Andrea Jones, Laura Leffel, Matthew Moore, Sissie Moore, Jessica Campbell, Darcie Randall, Desiree Hamm, and Mallory White. There are 19 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson surviving. Leon is also survived by his brothers, Wesley Moore and Lonnie Moore.
Graveside funeral services will be held at Highland Cemetery at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 27, 2022, under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.
Memorials have been established in Leon's name for the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and for Harry Hynes Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
