LeGrande Holmes "Rock" Lawson, 78, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, March 11, 2018 at Clearwater Nursing and Rehab in Clearwater, Kansas.

Born May 8, 1939 in Pauline, South Carolina, he was the son of Lafayette Holmes and Beatrice (West) Lawson. He was raised and received his education in Portsmouth, Virginia, graduating Craduck High School in 1959. He married his first wife, Elanda before joining the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country from 1962 to 1966. Following his honorable discharge, he and Elanda made their home in Winfield. The couple had a son, Duane. Elanda preceded him in death.

He was united in marriage to Sara "Sally" Johnson on December 3, 1994 in Ozark, Arkansas. The couple made their home in Winfield. Rock worked as a Jet Engine Mechanic for over 28 years for General Electric. He retired in 2001.

He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed taking photographs, gardening tomatoes, and collecting and playing with yoyo's. He loved to fish, especially at Lake Taneycomo in Branson. He was an avid kite flier and enjoyed making kites with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed building and flying in airplanes and loved to tell people he flew half way around the world as crew chief.

His brother: Gary Lawson (Mary Jo) of Chesapeake, VA;
His grandchildren: Brody Lawson, Cassara (Justin) Mullennax, Chelsie (Kevin) Nyambati, Chantelle St. Clair, Corin Dunkel, Lacey (Daniel) Hughes; Anson Postelwait;
His great grandchildren: Avery, Addilynn, Kayleigh, Lane, Riley, Emmah, Olivia and Meredith; and
Many other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Rock was preceded in death by a brother, Larry "Pee Wee" Lawson.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 16, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. A visitation will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Rock's name for Winfield Isle of Lights. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
