LAWRENCE E. "SHORTY" DONLEY, 88, lifelong resident of Rock, Kansas, passed away Friday afternoon, November 14, 2014.
Born September 26, 1926 in Rock, Kansas, he was the son of Paul E. and Edna M. (Barnett) Donley. He was raised in Rock and attended the Lonetree Country School and later Atlanta High School, graduating in 1945.
Lawrence entered the United States Army on January 5, 1951 and served in Germany. He was honorably discharged on December 24, 1952. He married Dorothy Calvert on June 8, 1958 at the First Baptist Church in Lamar, Missouri. The couple made their home in Rock.
Mr. Donley was a lifelong cattle and wheat farmer and trucker. He was a member of Prairie View United Methodist Church and was most recently attending Grandview United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #10 and Farm Bureau.
His family includes:
His wife of 56 years: Dorothy Donley of Rock;
His sons: Richard Donley of Winfield; Carl Donley of Rock; and John Donley and wife, Kathy of Rock;
His daughter: Mary Mikkelson and husband, Chuck of Oklahoma City;
His grandchildren: Brittany, Sara, Bridgette, Molly, Brooklene, Kayla and Jacob; and
His 2 great grandchildren: Landon and Logan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Don.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment and Military Committal honors will follow at the Stalter Cemetery in Rock. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
Memorials have been established in Lawrence's name for Prairie View United Methodist Church and for Grandview United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
