LAWRENCE N. GANN, 91, of Winfield, Kansas passed away Friday morning, January 8, 2010 at Cumbernauld Village.
Born February 28, 1918 on the family farm just east of Winfield, Lawrence was the son of Alfred Newton "Newt" and Matilda "Tillie" Laura (Liermann) Gann. He attended Frog Hollow School and Winfield High School, graduating in 1935.
He was united in marriage to Helen Jean Brown on November 29, 1939 in Wellington. The couple made their home in Winfield.
After graduation, Lawrence worked at Sonner Burner Company. He went to work at Boeing Aircraft in 1942. He left Boeing to enlist in the Merchant Marines, where he spent a year on the Pacific during WWII. He returned to Winfield and worked at Sonner Burner Company until 1955, when he and some others formed the Gordon & Piatt Corporation. Lawrence retired from Gordon & Piatt in 1972. The couple moved to the Trails End Ranch southeast of Winfield, where they lived, farmed and ranched until November 2001. Mrs. Gann preceded him in death on January 11, 2002.
Lawrence was a past member of the Winfield Country Club, The Winfield Elk's Lodge #732, and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping, gardening and woodworking.

His daughters: Connie Sue Gottlob and husband, Bob of Winfield; Diann Jean Carson and husband, James Erb of Tulsa, OK;
His 6 grandchildren: Angela (Gottlob) Norton of Winfield; Austin Gottlob of Wichita; Alex Gottlob of Winfield; Lawrence Carson of Texas; Tori (Gann) Bohannon of Belle Plaine; and Greg Gann of Wichita; and
His 11 great-grandchildren.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Helen Jean, his sister, Emma (Gann) Goodwin, and a grandson William "Kit" Carson.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 1:30 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Private family interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 4 to 8.
A memorial has been established in Mr. Gann's name for the Winfield City Lake Memorial Forest. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
