Lawrence E. "Larry" Dixon, 85, of Weslaco, Texas, formerly of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014 at the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado, Kansas.
Born May 20, 1929 on a farm outside of Cleveland, Kansas, he was the son of Lloyd and Gladys (Van Arsdale) Dixon. He was raised and received his education in Cleveland and graduated from Kingman High School in 1947.
Larry was united in marriage to Charlene F. Cromer on July 25, 1948 in Kingman, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Pratt where Larry went to work for R & R Tank Company as a welder. They later moved to Nashville and then Zenda, and Larry worked as the assistant manager and then manager of the Coops. In 1962 the couple moved to Winfield where Larry began managing the Winfield Coop. He remained at the Winfield Coop for almost 30 years, until retiring in 1991. After retiring, Charlene and Larry began spending their winters in Weslaco, Texas and in 2001 made Weslaco their permanent residence. Mrs. Dixon preceded him in death on December 21, 2008. In February of 2014 Mr. Dixon moved to El Dorado to be near his family.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. He was also a member of the Elks Club and the Masons. He enjoyed camping, farming, playing dominoes and fast pitch softball.

His grandchildren: Corey Dixon and wife, Nicole of Wichita; Rusty Glenn and wife, Hanna of Boulder, CO; and
His great-grandchild: Shawn Dixon of Wichita;
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Dixon was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard, Cortlandt, Gene, Jack, and Garry Lee, and his sister, Elizabeth Fisher.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Cleveland Cemetery in Cleveland, Kansas. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Wednesday evening, July 16, 2014 from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Larry's name for the Lung Cancer Foundation of America. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
