Obituary

Laurence "Larry" A. Bailey, 88, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, December 6, 2008 at William Newton Hospital.

Born on December 19, 1919 in Wakita, Oklahoma he was the son of Edward G. and Fannie M. (Alcorn) Bailey. He was raised and received his education in Wakita. He then joined the United States Army and proudly served his country in World War II attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and receiving a Bronze Star for his service. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Oklahoma.

Larry was employed at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita for a number of years in the Radar Department before moving back to Oklahoma to open his own television store. In 1972 he moved to Winfield and worked at Gordon-Piatt retiring in 1982.

In 1942 he married Jo Ann Davis in Fort Worth, Texas and to this union a daughter was born. The couple later divorced. Larry was united in marriage to Ada E. Harris in 1979 in Winfield, where the couple made their home.

He enjoyed making miniature working models and collecting miniature oil lamps. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, The Masonic Lodge of Winfield, and The Order of the Eastern Star.

His family includes:
His wife: Ada of the home;
His daughter: Sharon of Virginia;
His step-daughter: Judith Albright and husband, John of Fort Collins, Colorado; and
His one nephew and two nieces.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his two brothers, Floyd and Wayne Bailey.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Military committal honors will follow at Highland Cemetery in Winfield.

A memorial has been established in Larry's name for Grace United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
