Laura Kay Houchin, 51, of Udall, Kansas, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 30, 2021, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

Born November 16, 1969, in Wichita, Kansas, she was the daughter of Billy Eugene and Mary Grace (Bushnell) Smith. She was raised and received her education in Wichita, graduating from Southeast High School in 1988. She then attended Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. until returning to Wichita in 1989.

Laura was united in marriage to Ray Houchin on September 7, 1991, in Wichita. The couple made their first home in Wichita before moving to Udall in 1998. Laura made her career working in the bakeries of Walmart and Dillons.

She was a member of the Udall Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed making soap, candles, working with crafts, and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed cooking, going to garage sales, shopping, and coloring.

Her family includes her husband Ray Houchin of Udall; her sister Leslie Smith; her daughters, Faith Houchin; Samantha Houchin; and her grandsons, Bentley Russell, Maverick Williams, Marley Williams, Asher Houchin, and Isaiah Parker on the way.

In addition to her parents, Laura was preceded in death by a sister Lisa Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, June 7, 2021, at Udall Church of the Nazarene at the intersection of 2nd and Church St. in Udall. Interment will follow at the Udall Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Sunday afternoon from 3 to 7 P.M. at the church. The family will greet visitor that afternoon.

A memorial has been established in Laura's name to help defray funeral expenses. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
