Larry L. Yarbrough, 74, of Atlanta, Kansas, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 9, 2017 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.
Born October 4, 1942 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Warren and Jean Virginia (Lee) Yarbrough. He was raised and received his education in Atlanta, graduating from Atlanta High School in 1960. After school, he began working as a heavy equipment operator for Braymen and Meiking Construction, later known as BRB Contractors, which Larry was instrumental in forming and naming.
Larry was united in marriage to Beverly Joan Sparks on July 12, 1963 in Atlanta, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Louisburg, Kansas. While working for BRB Contractors, installing Rural Water Districts, the family travelled the Midwest, living in over 40 cities, including Stark, Kansas, Columbia, Missouri, Farmington, Iowa and Rossville, Kansas. While in Rossville, Larry and his two sons worked summers road boring.
Larry felt a calling to the ministry and the family moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, where Larry attended and graduated from Rhema Bible College. While there, a friendship developed, which later took the family to Fairview, Oklahoma where Larry built new homes for five years. After his boys graduated high school, Larry returned to work for BRB Contractors and W&L Construction. In 1988, they returned home to Atlanta, Kansas, and Larry began his career with Cowley County where he remained until retiring in 2011 as Road Boss for District #3.
He was a member of Timber Creek Friends Church in Atlanta. He enjoyed reading his bible, golfing, travelling, raising cattle and spending time with his grandchildren and friends.

His sons: Craig Lee Yarbrough of Tulsa, OK; Heath Lee Yarbrough and wife, Allison of Choctaw, OK;
His daughter: Carissa Honkomp and husband, Doug of Arkansas City;
His mother: Jean Yarbrough of Neodesha;
His sisters: Jackie DeCoudres and husband, Dean of Winfield; Cindy Baker and husband, Jay of Clinton, MO; Robin Chilcott and husband, Bret of Neodesha;
His grandchildren: Sidney, Seth and Erin Yarbrough, Heather Adams, Vivian Jean and Geneva Yarbrough, Kyle Warren and Ella Honkomp; and
His great grandchildren: Hannah and Rowan Adams.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Warren Yarbrough.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 13, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas. Interment will follow at Cambridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 6 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 2 to 4 that afternoon.
Memorials have been established in Larry's name for the Atlanta Fire Department and First Responders and for Timber Creek Friends Church in Atlanta.
