Obituary

LARRY A. WEIGAND, 60, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 31, 2010 at Via Christ/St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.

Born on August 3, 1950 in Salina, Kansas, he was the son of Allie Thomas and Irene (Bohman) Weigand. He was raised and received his education in Kansas and Missouri. He received his GED while serving in the Unites States Army.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, Mr. Weigand proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Medic and head of the IG Inspection Team. Following his honorable discharge, he resided in Hinkley, California before returning to Kansas.

He was united in marriage on July 25, 1988 to Dianna Donals in Winfield. Larry had been employed for Winfield Transfer and Storage, New Salem Co-op, Dungey Station and Butler Brothers. Larry owned and operated Sarges Gunshop and farmed. He retired in 2009.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3544, American Legion Post #10, Legion Riders, K and O Steam and Gas Engine Association and was a lifetime member of the NRA. His hobbies included target practice, collecting guns trains and steam engines. He had recently joined the Hudson Car Club.

His family includes:
His wife, Dianna of the home;
His children: Patricia Beach and husband Brandon of Winfield, KS; and Christopher Weigand of the home;
His 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild;
His brothers: Louis Weigand and wife Gay of Bellevue, NE; Jim Weigand and wife Jan of Parksville, MO; and
His sister: Sandra McHaley and husband Jack of Lake Havasu City, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield. Military committal honors will follow at St. Mary's Cemeterey.
An educational fund has been set up in Larry's name for his son, Christopher, at Citizen's Bank of Kansas. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
