Larry Gene Shively, 72, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 19, 2023, at the Kansas Veterans Home.

Born May 24, 1951 in Winfield, he was the son of George and Naomi (Jowers) Shively.  He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1970.  Immediately following high school, Larry joined the United States Navy.  He received his basic training in San Diego and was stationed on the USS Okinawa for two years, serving on the Apollo Title 15 Recovery Effort.  Larry stated that he loaded over 2000 Marines and delivered them to Vietnam.  Following his honorable discharge from the Navy in February 1972, he served in the Navy Reserve for four years.  Larry began working at Boeing in 1973, and retired from Spirit in 2013.

Larry was a faithful member of the American Legion Riders for ten years, serving as Road Captain for eight of those years.  He was also a member of the Winfield VFW for over 20 years.  In July 2022, he attended the Honor Flight in Washington D.C.

His family includes his nephews, Chris Sawyer of Winfield; Dr. Stan "Bo" (Gail) Sawyer of Winfield; his niece Buffy Sawyer of Yakima, WA; his great nieces and nephews, Jacob (Odessa) Sawyer, Colton Sawyer, Samuel (Halston) Sawyer, Chanea (Skylor) Kistler, Patrick (Haley) Sawyer, Kyle Sawyer; and his great-great nieces and nephews, Xavier, Canaan, Ember, and Addison.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a brother Stevie Shively and a sister Naoma (Sawyer) Reed.

Graveside funeral services and Military Committal Honors will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 30, 2023, at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.

Memorials have been established in Larry's name for the VFW Post #3544 or the American Legion Post #10.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
