Obituary

Larry L. Reed, 79, of Winfield, KS, passed away at his home on Thursday, January 26, 2023.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. A private family burial be held at a later date.
Larry was born June 17, 1943, in Winfield, KS to Thomas H. and Ethel (May) Reed. He was raised and educated in rural Winfield, attending Grandview grade school, and graduating from Winfield High School in 1961. He participated in baseball, basketball, football, track, and wrestling. He broke numerous records competing in the shot-put event. He began working in the oilfield in his late teens and continued a connection to the oilfield in different capacities all his life. He worked at Binney & Smith for a number of years before beginning a long career at the City of Winfield as an electrical lineman. Being a farm boy, he always had a horse to ride and developed a love of rodeo. He successfully competed in rodeos in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Missouri as a steer wrestler. He pursued steer wrestling for 25 years or so, which eventually was replaced with team roping. He also enjoyed heading to the local coffee shop each morning to get in on the story telling and local news.
Larry married Donna Maddox in 1962, the marriage produced three children. They later divorced. His marriage to Judy Chenoweth ended with her death. He married Connie (Allison) Gowin in 2017.
Preceding him in death are his parents and brother Lester Reed.
He is survived by wife Connie of the home, his son Tom of Cambridge, daughter Dede and husband Joe Ciskowski of Las Cruces, NM, and Jody Reed Ollenborger of Little Rock, Arkansas, granddaughter Brittany Ollenborger Maddox and husband Jason of Burden, grandson Tyler Duke Ollenborger of Arkansas City, and great granddaughter Kinzel Maddox.
The family is asking in lieu of flowers that people contribute to Camp Like Max or their favorite charities. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
