Obituary

LARRY JOE DOBSON, 67, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away early Thursday morning, January 8, 2009 at his home.

Born on October 18, 1941 in Winfield, he was the son of Donald Eugene and Winifred Earl (Shepherd) Dobson. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School. He was a wonderful drummer and received honors while in the high school band.

Larry joined the United States Army at the age of 19 and served in the Vietnam War. He held several positions within the army. After 28 years of service, Larry retired as a Master Sergeant and was honorably discharged.

He was united in marriage to Ingeborg Scheider on May 7, 1982, in Hagerstown, Maryland. The couple made their first home in Maryland. They moved to Germany later in 1982, where Larry served with N.A.T.O. from 1982 to 1986. The couple returned to Winfield in 1986. Mrs. Dobson preceded him in death on December 21, 1997.

He was a member of the Catholic church. He was also a member of the American Legion, holding the Commander position at one time, the Masonic Lodge, and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. Larry enjoyed catering, photography and art, including water color painting and charcoal and chalk drawings.

His family includes:
His sons: Thomas Dobson and wife, Lauren of Kansas City, MO; Jerry Dobson of Lenexa, KS; and Ken Dobson and wife, Shelby of Pasadena, MD;
His sisters: Marcia Elouise Wurtz of Tulsa, OK; Dona Dick and husband, Grant of Iowa; and Cheryl Dobson of Winfield; and
His grandchildren: Jordan, Ashton, Ryan, Connor, Hunter and Jamison.

In addition to his wife and parents, Larry was preceded in death by a brother, Steven Clark.

The Rosary will be recited at 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 12, 2009, at Holy Name Catholic Church. A Celebration of Christian Burial will follow at 2:30 P.M. at the church. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Sunday, January 11 from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M.

A Memorial has been established in Larry's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
