Obituary

LARRY W. DOBBS, 61, of El Dorado, Kansas, passed away Monday, August 4, 2014 in Wichita, Kansas.

Born August 16, 1952 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Glenn and Barbara (Falkingham) Dobbs. He was raised and received his education in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1970. He went on to earn his Criminal Justice Degree through Cowley County Community College, graduating in 1980. He later received a B.S. in Management and Ethics in 1999 from Manhattan Christian College.

Larry was united in marriage to Patricia D. Meek on May 17, 1974 in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield. Larry was hired at the Winfield Police Department in 1975. He worked up the ranks and was named Chief of Police in 1996. He retired from that position in 2003. After retirement, Larry moved to El Dorado and worked as a Court Services Officer for the 13th Judicial District.

Larry was a dedicated servant of the Lord, a devoted husband, father and "papa". He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in El Dorado and served on the church board. He was a former member and president of the Fraternal Order of Police. Larry also served on the Kansas Chief of Police, the American Red Cross Executive Board and the Rotary Club. He coordinated local and county law enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics and belonged to numerous other boards and organizations. He was an avid fan of KU Basketball, New York Yankees and Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed home-improvement projects, yard work, and working out. He loved spending time with his family and friends and especially enjoyed having quality time with his three grandchildren.

His daughters: Lexi Rember and husband, Ken of Antlers, OK; Kami Dobbs of Wichita; Shannon Volz and husband, Travis of Derby;
His grandchildren: P.J. and A'myah Morris and Lane Dobbs;
His brothers: Ron Dobbs and wife, Sherri of Denver, CO; Dennis Dobbs and wife, Jan of Lexington, OK; Roger Dobbs and wife, Liza of Burden; Dale Dobbs and wife, Lori of Winfield; Chad Dobbs of Winfield; and
His sisters: Carol Johnson of Wichita; Ginny Mazzoni and husband, Chuck of Wichita; Donna Dobbs of Haysville; Mary Cahill of Winfield.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Barbara Dobbs.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Church of the Nazarene in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Friday evening from 5 to 8 P.M.

Memorials have been established in Larry's name for the American Red Cross, Winfield First Church of the Nazarene and El Dorado First Church of the Nazarene. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
