Obituary

Larry Gene Brown, 74, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday evening, October 20, 2016 at his home.

Born April 6, 1942 in Blackwell, Oklahoma, he was the son of Harold and Vida (Asper) Brown. He was raised and received his education in Geuda Springs and Udall, and graduated from Oxford High School in 1960. After school, he went to work for Oxford Sand and Gravel.

Larry was united in marriage to Glenda Cales on December 29, 1962 at Central Baptist Church in Winfield, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Oxford and later lived in El Dorado, Arkansas City and for the last 45 years, have resided in Winfield. Larry worked as a tank driver in the oil fields for several years until becoming an over the road truck driver in 1992. In May of 2009, he began working for Price Trucking moving trailers at Rubbermaid, and remained there until retiring in May of 2016.

He was a member of Cornerstone Bible Fellowship in Winfield. He enjoyed playing practical jokes on his friends and family.

His daughter: Dawn Mahurin and husband, Bobby of Lamar, MO;
His brothers: Terry Brown and wife, Sharon of Rogers, AR; Alan Brown of Wichita;
His sister: Beverly Wagoner of Manhattan;
His grandchildren: Craig and Gabby Brown of Augusta; Jacob Hines of Ponca City, OK; Faith, Luke & Micah Brown of Winfield; Kaeleigh Mahurin and husband, Ryan of Lamar, MO; Koleton and Kiersten Mahurin of Lamar, MO;
His five great grandchildren with one on the way; and
Many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by an infant son, Craig Alan, a sister-in-law, Marsha Brown, his father-in-law, Ralph Cales, and mother-in-law, Pauline Cales.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at Cornerstone Bible Fellowship in Winfield. Private burial will take place at Union Graham Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Tuesday evening from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet friends from 4 to 6 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Larry's name for Cornerstone Bible Fellowship. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
