KLEORA M. DUNLAP, 92, of Winfield, Kansas, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Winfield Resthaven.
Born on January 22, 1922 in Oak Hill, Kansas (Ottawa County), she was the daughter of Lawrence and Letha M. (Shivers) Lyne. She was raised in the Oak Hill and Miltonvale, Kansas area. She graduated from Miltonvale Rural High School in 1940. She worked at Slingsby's Restaurant in Clay Center, Kansas and that is where she met the love of her life, Ralph Edward Dunlap.
She was united in marriage to Ralph on July 28, 1942 by her grandfather, Reverend Francis E. Shivers. While Ralph was in the army and stationed in California, Kleora worked in an airplane factory there. She always said she was not a "Rosie" girl. After Ralph returned from WWII, they made their home in Abiline, Kansas, where they had 2 daughters. They later moved to Wakefield, Kansas where they had a 3rd daughter. The couple spent 4 years in Norton, Kansas, where Kleora worked at the Diary Queen and then at the Anbe Home nursing home.
Ralph's work moved them to Winfield in 1971 where they made their home. She worked several years at Gibson's and later the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. She retired with disability from WSH and went back to being a homemaker.
The couple traveled in their fifth wheel trailer for many years and were members of The Sunchaser's Campers group. The made many friends through their travels and Kleora enjoyed keeping in contact with all of those friends. Ralph passed away in March of 1991 and she spent her time visiting with close friends, writing letters and cards, helping take care of grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as crocheting and doing plastic canvas.
Kleora was one of 13 cousins who kept in touch over the years. Three of those are still living and remain in Salina, Kansas, and on the Lyne family homestead outside of Oak Hill, Kansas.
Her family includes:
Her daughters: Betty A. Dunlap of Abiline, KS; Deborah A. Neal and husband Thomas of Winfield, KS; and Patricia A. Lock of Winfield, KS;
