Kenneth Eugene "Gene" Snell, 81, of Winfield, Kansas, went home to be with the Lord, Friday morning, January 18, 2013 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Born September 20, 1931 in Winfield, Kansas he was the son of Emile L. and Irene Mae (Buss) Snell. He was raised and received his education in Udall graduating from Udall High School in 1950. He then attended Southwestern College. In 1953 he joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country in the Korean War. While in Korea he drove the "Amphibious Ducks". Gene was honorably discharged in 1955 and returned to Winfield where he worked for several area businesses including: Gott Manufacturing; Brown Trucking; Smith and Moon; Powell Construction; and Pomona Tile. While at Pomona Tile he met the love of his life, Pat Inman.

Gene was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Inman, April 14, 1957 in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield where Gene worked as a Commercial Printer for the Winfield Daily Courier. He remained with the Courier for over 40 years until retiring in 1997. He then continued to help at the paper part time for another 3 years. After retiring, Gene and Pat enjoyed taking many trips. They were especially fond of their annual trip to Branson, Missouri, for Veteran's Week.

He was a very faithful member of the Millington Street Baptist Church. Gene served in several areas of the church including: on the Missions Board, as a choir member, Toddler Sunday School Teacher; and Usher. He was also a member of the American Legion and was an avid blood donor with the American Red Cross. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially, bowling, basketball, and baseball. While he was younger he was on the Winfield City Team in baseball and would travel with them playing tournaments all over the state. He also enjoyed going pheasant hunting in Pratt.

His great grandson: Kyler Anthony Villa of Winfield.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 2:00 P.M., at Millington Street Baptist Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Tuesday evening, January 22, 2013 from 4 to 8. The family will greet friends from 4 to 6 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Gene's name for the Millington Street Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
