Kenneth McCaslin, 85, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, June 8, 2012 at his home, surrounded by family and under the care of Hospice Care of Kansas.

Born November 6, 1926 in Stone Bluff, Oklahoma, he was the son of Gus and Flossie (Meaders) McCaslin. He was raised and received his early education in Stone Bluff. He then went to Haskell High School in Haskell, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Haskell High School basketball team. After school Kenneth joined the United States Navy where he proudly served his country in World War II. While in the war he served in southeast Asia on a hospital ship, and a Merchant Marine supply ship. He was on the first ship into Iwo Jima after the Island was secured, it was loaded with beer, whisky and coke. In 1947 He was honorably discharged from the service and returned home to Stone Bluff to help his father on the family farm.

Kenneth was united in marriage to A-Belle Cauthon, on June 11, 1954, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Shidler, Oklahoma, where he worked in the oil fields as a Well Service Foreman. In 1967 the family moved to Winfield, Kansas where be began working for Binney and Smith as a Night Watchman. He remained at Binney and Smith for over 22 years until retiring in 1989.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed hunting, training hunting dogs, fishing, gardening, beekeeping, woodworking, cooking, and was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

His daughter: Suzi Masem and husband, Jim of Winfield;
His nephew: Ralph Wayne McCaslin and wife, Yudi of Plattsmouth, NE;
His brother: Gus McCaslin Jr., and wife, Laura of Inola, OK;
His grandchildren: Shauna Smock and fiancé, Adam Andes of Winfield; Tammy Smock of Winfield; Christi Hembree of Pratt; Katie Divine of Pratt; Curtis McCaslin of Emporia; and
His 9 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents Kenneth was preceded in death by five brothers, Herschel, Ralph, Quinton, Marshal, and Willis.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment and Military Committal honors will be held at 2:30 P.M. at the Fairfax Cemetery in Fairfax, Oklahoma. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday afternoon from 1 to 5 P.M.

Memorials have been established in Kenneth's name for Hospice Care of Kansas, and for the First Church of the Nazarene. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
