Kenneth R. Mccanon's Obituary
Kenneth Robert McCanon, D.D.S. 93, of Winfield passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Cumbernauld Village.
Ken was born in Des Moines, Iowa May 13, 1923, the son of Rupert L. and Leslie C. (Mumford) McCanon.
Ken served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He graduated from Drake University, then the University of Missouri, Kansas City School of Dentistry in 1952 with his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. While in school Ken met and married Norma Tucker. Upon graduation they settled in Winfield where he opened a general dentistry practice. In their sixty years together they raised four children and were very active in the community.
Ken was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club, Winfield Masonic Lodge, York Rite Bodies, Scottish Rite Consistory and the Midian Shriners. He will be remembered for his meticulous care of his patients, love of woodworking and car restoration, his genuine sense of humor, and for his loving devotion to his family and friends. His joyful presence will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his children, Pam (Terry) Weaver, Jan (Mike) Horsch, Rob (Tammy) McCanon, Cheryl (Tim) Smith; grandchildren, Janelle (Colin) Duthie, Scott (Katie) Weaver, Sarah (Luke) Carsley, Rachel (Paul) Sherek, Leah (Robby) Apfel, Heather McCanon, Kyle McCanon; and great-grandchildren Campbell and Charlotte Duthie, Owen and Jay Weaver, Matthew and Benjamin Carsley. Ken was predeceased by his wife, Norma (Tucker) McCanon and infant daughter Karen Sue.
Visitation will be Friday, April 28 from 4:00pm-8:00pm at Miles Funeral Service, 4001 E. 9th Avenue. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2017, 10:00am at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. Interment will follow the service at Highland Cemetery, Winfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to Shriners Plane of Mercy, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or First United Methodist Church Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
