Kenneth G. "Kenny" Manthey, 83, of Douglass, Kansas, former longtime resident and Mayor of Atlanta, Kansas died Friday, November 8, 2013 at his home.
Kenneth was born May 19, 1930, in Anthony, Kansas, the only child of Ben and Lou Manthey. He was raised on the family farm outside of Burden, Kansas and graduated from Burden High School.
Kenneth served two years in the United States Marines. He was honorably discharged and returned to Kansas. He was married in 1955 to Mary Foust Manthey. Kenneth continued to farm. He was also an accomplished carpenter, plumber and electrician. He retired from Boeing and continued farming until his death. His family includes:

His children: Kena Lee Manthey Rice and husband, Ulysses "Al" Rice of Burden; Mary Marcella Manthey Stout of Douglass; and
His son-in-law: Leroy Wetzel of Burden;
His grandchildren: Jeffrey Rice and wife, Christina of Overland Park; Kimberly Rice of Derby; Jonathon Stout and wife, Angela of Belle Aire; Brandon Rice and wife, Cheryl of Wichita; KayLee Stout and Cody Hoffman of Atlanta;
His great grandchildren: Danielle and Kaitlyn Gallegos, Alexander Stout, Kadence Oliver Hoffman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Sheila K. Manthey Wetzel.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday afternoon, November 11, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at CornerStone Christian Church in Atlanta. Interment will follow at the Atlanta Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 to 2 at the church. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Mr. Manthey's name for CornerStone Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
