Obituary

Kenneth G. Day, 75, of Winfield, Kansas, went to his Heavenly home Sunday morning, April 19, 2020 at Via Christ St. Francis in Wichita.

Born August 11, 1944 in Winfield, he was the son of Kenneth L. and Gladys (Anderson) Day. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1962. Kenny was united in marriage to Carole Campbell on March 20, 1965 in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield.

Kenny worked at several area businesses including Gordon & Piatt and Webster Engineering. He was activated with the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Winfield and graduated with an associate's degree from Cowley County Community College. In 1979, he started K.G. Day Builder. He has left a legacy in the Winfield community with his design, building, and craftsmanship of numerous custom-built homes and remodeling work.

He attended Crossroads Community Church. The last few years, he was unable to attend due to his health, but he loved the Lord and he shared his faith with others.

Among his many passions besides constructions, was his love of the outdoors, sailing, and most of all, Harley motorcycles. He enjoyed planning and taking trips on his Harley, with his friends and other couples. His trips were across many states, and he covered thousands of miles in all kinds of weather. This love of motorcycles, started at a young age and continued until he physically couldn't ride anymore. Kenny, or "Butch", as many called him, loved life. He was adventurous and thrived on being busy. He loved "wrenching" as he called it, in his Harley shop. He not only rode Harleys, but he also built many custom bikes over the years. Along with his collection of Harley parts and bikes, he had a massive collection and love of unique knives and hats. It was not uncommon for him to offer to buy a hat off a man's head if he would part with it. Last but not least, he acquired many leather jackets for any type of riding weather.

The only thing he loved as much as motorcycles, or the Lord, was Carole. She was the love of his life for 55 years. He never wanted to go anywhere without her.

Kenny was a devoted husband to Carole, father to Traci and Ryan, and grandfather to Dayne and Josie. He was so proud and blessed with his children and grandchildren.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Shirley. Survivors are his wife Carole, daughter Traci and husband, Kenny, son Ryan, grandchildren, Dayne and Josie, and his sisters, Gwen Fox and husband, Ralph, and Patty Dust, all of Winfield.

Memorial services have been scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.  Private inurnment will take place at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

A memorial has been established in Kenny's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
