Kendra
Redford
May 19, 1939 – June 10, 2023
Kendra A. Redford, 84, of Burden, Kansas, passed away on June 10, at her home.
She was born May 19, 1939, in Cowley County, Kansas, the daughter of Kenneth and Barbara (Johnson) Shively. She spent her childhood in Burden, attending school there with her sister, Frances (Shively) Baucom. Kendra and Frances stayed close, often visiting by phone or in person, until Frances passed away in 2019.
Kendra graduated from Burden High School in 1956. Following high school she attended Junior College.
On June 22, 1958, she married Bob Redford in Burden. She and Bob had four children, two boys and two girls, and she spent much of her time in the early years of their marriage managing a busy household. When the children were older, she worked for a time at Edw. B. Stephenson & Co. accounting firm in Winfield.
In 1972, Kendra and Bob became involved in the production of the Walnut Valley Festival. While Bob was president of the Walnut Valley Association for over 40 years, in truth the annual event was a family business and Kendra played an integral role in managing the festival for most of that time. Her children have all been involved with the festival in one capacity or another and her sister Frances oversaw hiring and scheduling for the festival for many years. Kendra was known for her ability to plug holes whenever and wherever needed, and for often being quick with a word of encouragement, even when things got busy. When Bob passed away in 2016, Kendra became sole owner and continued to play an active role in the festival's management. She contributed a forward to Seth Bate's Winfield's Walnut Valley Festival, a history and memoir of the festival published in celebration of the event's 50th anniversary in 2022.
Kendra and her family attended Tisdale United Methodist Church and continued to do so even after they moved to a home on the west side of Winfield. She was an active supporter of many different causes and organizations. She enjoyed traveling and gardening.
She is survived by her daughter Krystal, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Bart and Melinda (Farris) of Winfield.; daughter-in-law Gail Redford of Wichita, KS.; grandchildren, Kevin of Winfield and Kayla of Foster City, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her sister Frances, her parents, her son Brian, and daughter Keira.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Miles Funeral Service east of Winfield. Private family interment will take place at Atlanta Cemetery.
Memorials have been established in Kendra's name for Tisdale Methodist Church and the Marquee Performing Arts Center. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
