Obituary

KAY PERDARIS, 60, of Winfield, Kansas, went home to be with Jesus on Monday morning, September 3, 2012 surrounded by her family at her home.

Born on October 7, 1951 in Winfield, Kansas she was the daughter of Leo C. and Georgia "Helen" (Gipson) Phillips. She was raised and received her education in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1969.

Following graduation, Kay worked at the US Pentagon as a short-hand typist. Kay returned to Kansas where she met James Perdaris. They were united in marriage on November 24, 1970 in Winfield, Kansas. The couple was stationed near Frankfurt, Germany and also had lived in Arkansas City, Kansas; Mobile, Alabama; and Carrollton, Texas before returning to Winfield in the late 1980's. After the couple divorced, Kay lived in Udall, Arkansas City and returned to Winfield. She worked in the restaurant and catering business for most of her career. Kay shared her love of music through her songwriting and playing the piano, and won several prestigious songwriting awards including many from the Billboard Music Association.

She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and the Billboard Songwriters Association. Kay loved cooking for the Walnut Valley Festival and didn't know a stranger. She traveled extensively and enjoyed reading. Her favorite moments were spent with her children and grandchildren.

Her sisters: Carlene Whitney and husband Morris of Las Cruces, NM; Lynn Merritt of Winfield, KS; Karen Wylie and husband Reverend Charles of Nocona, TX; Diane Dean of Carrollton, TX; Pam Doyle and husband Ron of Derby, KS; Connie Lawson of Winfield, KS; Sherri Beebe of Ponca City, OK; and Lisa Foust and husband Kelly of Winfield, KS;
Her brother: Jim Phillips and wife Debbie of Winfield, KS;
Her grandchildren: Diego, Armando and Izzy Popejoy.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers in law: Reverend John Merritt and Jimmy Dean.

Funeral services will take place at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the First Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow at Maple City Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service, Wednesday, September 5, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. that evening.
