Kay Ann Ferguson (Caines) passed away on December 30, 2014 at St. John's Methodist Hospital in Clear Lake, Texas.
Kay was the daughter of Ben and Dorothea Ferguson of Augusta, Kansas. She was born in Winfield, Kansas on October 16, 1959 and grew up in nearby Burden. She graduated from Chanute High School in Chanute, Kansas and attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Education.
Kay worked with special needs children at local elementary schools in Richmond, Virginia and Savannah, Georgia for several years. Settling in Clear Lake, Texas, Kay continued her teaching and working with elementary special education students in nearby Webster for 15 years.
Kay's love of the water prompted her owning a sailboat, which she enjoyed on Clear Lake and Galveston Bay. Actively engaged in the boating social community for many years, Kay received much pleasure from the friendship of many others, including her long-time friend Joe Van Wagnen.
She is survived by her parents, Ben and Dorothea Ferguson; a brother, Jerry Ferguson and wife, Jennifer of Houston, Texas; a nephew, Shawn Ferguson and wife, Emily of Ft. Worth, Texas; an aunt, Erma Smith; and numerous cousins in the Wichita area.
Kay was preceded in death by an uncle and aunt, Gerald and Lucille Ferguson of El Dorado, Kansas and an uncle, Bill Ferguson of Valley Center.
The family will hold a memorial service at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Augusta United Methodist Church, 2420 N. Ohio Street. Family inurnment will take place at the Burden Cemetery.
