Kathryn Gilkeson, 88, of Winfield, Kansas, formerly Oklahoma City, passed away Tuesday morning, January 6, 2015 at her home.
Born December 13, 1926 in Houston, Texas, she was the daughter of James and Anna Kathryn (Cowden) Holland. She was raised and received her education in Houston and went on to attend Rice University. She received her Master's Degree from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.
Kathryn was united in marriage to Paul Worth Gilkeson on September 10, 1948 in Houston. The couple made their first home in Houston. They later spent one year in Wichita, six years in Great Bend and forty years in Oklahoma City. Kathryn taught Freshman English at Roosevelt Junior High in Great Bend, Kansas. She later taught High School English at Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City. Mr. Gilkeson preceded her in death on December 9, 2008. Kathryn moved to Winfield in 2008 to be closer to family.
Mrs. Gilkeson was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. She enjoyed reading and working in flower gardens. She also enjoyed sewing in her younger years.

Her grandchildren: Austin Gilkeson and wife, Ayako of Chicago, IL; Jenna Bennet and husband, Matt of Pickens, NC; and Daniel Stiner of Winfield, KS; and
Her 4 great grandchildren: Deshon, Kirstie and Caitlin Stiner and Liam Kaito Gilkeson.
In addition to her parents and husband, Kathryn was preceded in death by her sisters, Elizabeth Hunter and Jimmie Magness.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Private family interment will be held at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at a later date.
Memorials have been established in Kathryn's name for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and for Meals on Wheels in Oklahoma City. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
