Obituary

KATHERINE A. TAYLOR, 91, of Douglass, Kansas, passed away Wednesday morning, August 13, 2014 at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita.

Born June 24, 1923 in her grandpa Lewis' house in Floral, Katherine was the daughter of Leroy and Mary (Stuber) Lewis. She attended grade school in Floral and high school in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1941. Katherine was the first female checker to work at the Winfield Grocery Store. In 1943 she started working for Boeing and continued working there off and on for several years. She also worked as the secretary at the Douglass Rock Quarry for a short time.

She married Keith Parry on November 4, 1945 at the Christian Church in Wilmot, Kansas. In 1952, the couple moved to their farm house in rural Douglass, where Katherine remained for the rest of her life. Keith preceded her in death on January 11, 1956. On November 8, 1962, she was united in marriage to J.R. "Dick" Taylor at the First Christian Church in Douglass. Mr. Taylor preceded her in death on July 26, 1992.

Katherine was a member of the First Christian Church in Douglass. She also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, traveling, cooking and playing cards. She also enjoyed bird watching, especially hummingbirds. She loved spending time and playing with her grandchildren.

Her family includes:
Her son: Dan Taylor and wife, Shawna of Rock;
Her daughter: Lavon Weber and husband, Pete of Hays;
Her brothers: Dee Lewis and wife, Edna of Winfield; Alan Lewis of Winfield;
Her sister: Marjorie Abel and husband, Gene of Winfield;
Her grandchildren: Cole Weber, Warren Taylor, Mariah Taylor, and Malissa Taylor.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Katherine was preceded in death by a grandson, Clay Weber, her brothers, Dan Lewis and Walt Lewis, and her sisters, Betty Bourne and Barbara Joan Lewis.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 18, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Christian Church in Douglass. Interment will follow at the Douglass Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield on Sunday evening from 5 to 7 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.

Memorials have been established in Katherine's name for the Salvation Army and the First Christian Church of Douglass. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
