Karen Kay Thompson, 70, of Cedar Vale, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, June 15, 2019 at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita.
Born May 23, 1949 in El Dorado, Kansas, she was the daughter of Thomas J. and Phyllis (Cain) Junkins. She was raised and received her education in El
Dorado. Her family moved to Arkansas City when she was 14 years old and graduated Arkansas City High School in 1967. In 1975, she went to work for Gordon Piatt where she remained for over 22 years, retiring in 1997.
She was united in marriage to Lynn Thompson on July 7, 1998 in Cripple Creek, Colorado. The couple made their home in Winfield and moved to Cedar Vale in December 2001. They enjoyed traveling, antiquing, and Karen especially loved collecting Tiffany lamps. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Her family includes her husband Lynn of Cedar Vale; her step-daughters, Elizabeth O'Bryan and husband, Rob of Burden; Virginia Smith of Winfield; Kim Fleetwood and husband, Wayne of Arkansas City; her sisters, Vickie Junkins Tredway and husband, Bill of Oxford; Janet Junkins Bishop and husband, Brian of Towanda; and her nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her step-son Corbin Thompson, son-in-law David Smith, grandson Christian, nephew Clifton Bishop, and great niece Kathrine Tredway.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Ozro Falls Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in Karen's name for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
