Karen Sue Holmes, 74, of Udall, Kansas, passed away Wednesday evening, June 7, 2017 at William Newton Hospital.

Born November 29, 1942 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Earl Raymond and Helen Lucille (Kunkle) Valentine. She was raised and received her education in Douglass, graduating from Douglass High School in 1960. She then attended and graduated from Vernon's School of Cosmetology in Wichita. After school, Sue began working at Bets Beauty Bar in Udall. In the late 1970's, she began a new career as bookkeeper at the Udall Co-op. She remained at the co-op until retiring in 1991.

Sue was united in marriage to Ray Holmes on May 1, 1992 in Bakersfield, California. The couple made their home in Udall and enjoyed traveling the country as over the road truck drivers. She was a member of Odd Fellows, as well as serving on the Udall School Board. She enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Her step-children: Shelley Harris of Winfield; Paul Holmes of Udall; Chris Holmes and wife, Melissa of Udall;
Her brother: Don "Dink" Valentine of Grand Junction, CO; and
Her 25 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Hayworth, a brother, Robert Valentine and step daughter, Brenda Durkin.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Ninnescah Cemetery near Udall. Sue requested casual attire. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Monday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Sue's name for the Udall First Responders. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
