Juanita Gil-Buenfil, 86, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Thursday evening, November 29, 2018 at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita.
Born August 25, 1932 in Mulhall, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Ernest and Audrey (Nicholas) Barker. She was raised and received her early education in Cedar Vale, Kansas. The family later moved to Wellington where she attended Wellington High School graduating in 1950. Following high school, she worked at Beech Aircraft for a short time.
She married Jim Keithline in 1950. To this union, a daughter was born, the couple later divorced. In 1953, she married Tom Manning. The couple had a son and later divorced. She was united in marriage to Antonio G. Gil-Buenfil in 1960 in Newton, Kansas. The couple made their home in Wichita and Juanita worked at several area businesses, including working as a secretary at Jet Lumber and Magill Trucking. She retired from Magill Trucking in 2004. Antonio preceded her in death on March 12, 2005. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, going to garage sales, and hosting dinners. She especially enjoyed taking care of her family.
Her family includes her daughters Debbie Sublett of Park City; Michelle Tucker and husband, Curtis of Wichita; Lorraine Morsbach of Wichita; her son Steve Manning and wife, Glennis of Rose Hill; her grandchildren, Jon Manning and fiance, Kayla of Valley Center; Matt Manning and wife, Rose of Bentley; Amelia Sublett and partner, Ashley of Kansas City, MO; Lori Carmody of Wichita; Shelly Carmody of Wichita; T'sharra Carlson of Lees Summit, MO; Carrie (Kevin) Tucker of Olathe; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and great granddog Riley.
In addition to her parents and husband, Juanita was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Denise Tucker and a grandson, Tim Tucker.
Graveside funeral services will be held Monday, December 3, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Cedar Vale Cemetery in Cedar Vale, Kansas. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 6 P.M.
A memorial has been established in Juanita's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
